Contact Energy (Contact) has today announced the appointment of Matt Forbes to the position of Chief Financial Officer.
Matt is former Head of Corporate Finance at Contact and his selection follows an extensive local and international recruitment process. He has been acting Chief Financial
Officer since predecessor Dorian Devers was appointed Chief Development and Major Projects Officer in January 2025.
Speaking of the appointment, Contact CEO Mike Fuge said Matt would bring outstanding strategic capability, decisive financial leadership, proven and trusted stakeholder relationships and a critical understanding of the energy sector.
“We are delighted to welcome Matt to our high-performing leadership team and congratulate him on his new role. Contact’s vision is to be a leader in the decarbonisation and energy transition of New Zealand. Matt will play a critical part in the next phase of our journey as we add value to the economy, our shareholders and the New Zealand public,” says Mr Fuge.
Matt joined Contact in 2010. Over the last 15 years he has worked across the business ingeneration, corporate finance, strategy and investor relations supporting capital raising, driving the Contact 26 strategy, working on the Manawa acquisition and helping reshape Contact’s portfolio.

Matt is a Chartered Accountant and starts as Chief Financial Officer immediately.
