Minister accepts broadband recommendations

Communications and Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce has accepted Commerce Commission recommendations to remove the resale regulation of retail broadband and data services, and resale regulation of bundled retail services.

Among the services involved are the resale to end users of retail broadband services, and resale of retail residential telephone service and associated value added services such as call waiting and call minder.

Joyce today said the regulation of those retail services had been scaled back because competitive service providers were using regulated wholesale access services to provide their own retail broadband and data service offerings to end users.
