US markets closed higher on Monday as Treasury bond yields retreated and investors took the opportunity to pick up shares of beaten-down technology and other growth stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.70%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.57% and 1.29% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-1.88%), the Dax 30 (-1.54%), CAC 40 (-2.01%) and the STOXX (-2.15%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225 (-1.90%), HSI (-3.73%) and the Shanghai Composite (-5.13%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.822%, while the 2 - year note was at 2.63%. Oil was down to $102.3 per barrel, down 4.06%. The gold price was at US$1897.68 per ounce, down 1.83%.
