Market close: Shares close higher

The sharemarket rose slightly today with the NZSE50 up 0.84% to end the day at 3,361.

Top stock Telecom eased to 1.33%, Contact Energy was up 2.04%, and Fletcher Building closed up 4.08%.

In the retail sector, Michael Hill gained 2.27%, Hallenstein Glasson remained unchanged and Pumpkin Patch dropped .66%.

Gains today included A2 Corporation up 6.67%, Ryman Healthcare up 4.40%, Tower up 4.33%, Plus SMS Holdings up 3.64% and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare up 2.55%.

Lombard Group lost 40%, Dominion Finance continued down 16.67%, OceanaGold Corporation down 6.15%, Turners Auctions down 5.45% and Sealegs Corporation down 2.56%.

Warehouse Group, the biggest retailer on the NZX 50 Index, was up 2.18% after saying its full-year profit fell 21% amid weakening consumer demand and higher costs.

Solution Dynamics Ltd, a data, print and mail management company, remained unchanged today after forecasting a profit in 2009 after two years of losses, on license sales of its Dejar data archiving product.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index rose 89.5 points, or 1.9%, to close at the day's high of 4903.8,

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished up 164.79 points, or 1.46% to 11,433.71, while the broader Standard & Poor's 500 lifted 17.01 points, or 1.38%, to 1,249.05.
The NASDAQ rose 29.52 points, or 1.32%, to 2,258.22.
