How do I buy shares as a gift?

Thursday 24th January 2002

Text too small?
Q: I have a brother who lives in South Africa and I wanted to give him some shares for a wedding present - do you have any advice about what market to buy shares in?

A: It is a lovely idea and a great way to start married life, especially after the cost of the wedding! You might want to look at buying shares in either the American or UK markets as they both have stronger currencies and the shares will be just as easy to sell from South Africa.
