U.S. stock markets closed lower Monday as people concerned about the surging Omicron cases may add more pressure to inflation and stall the economic growth.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed lower -1.49%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 1.34% and 1.34%, respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed higher as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.99%), the Dax 30 (-1.88%), CAC 40 (-0.82%) and the STOXX (-1.30%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices were both down. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-2.13%), HSI (-1.93%) and the Shanghai Composite (-1.07%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 1.41%, while the 2 - year note was at 0.63%. Oil was up to $71.87 per barrel, down 2.24%. The gold price was at US$1790.40 per ounce, down 0.56%.
