US markets closed lower on Thursday, with the Nasdaq leading the charge supported by chipmakers, while benchmark S&P 500 hit an intraday record high as investors remained upbeat about the prospects of the Fed's interest rate cut in June. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.33%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.07% and up 1.65% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.17%), the Dax 30 (+1.19%), CAC 40 (+0.77%) and the STOXX (+1.19%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.23%), HSI (-1.27%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.41%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.094%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.51%. Oil was up to $78.84 per barrel, down 0.37%. The gold price was at US$2167.00 per ounce, up 0.40%.
