US markets closed lower on Thursday as Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell signalled the US central bank would move aggressively to curb inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 1.05%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 2.07% and 1.48% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.02%), the Dax 30 (+0.98%), CAC 40 (+1.36%) and the STOXX (+0.80%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225 (+1.23%), HSI (-1.25%) and the Shanghai Composite (-2.26%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.913%, while the 2 - year note was at 2.688%. Oil was down to $108.6 per barrel, up 1.66%. The gold price was at US$1951.64 per ounce, down 0.28%.
