US markets closed down on Monday as investors weighed whether the US Federal Reserve might pause its interest rate hikes at its upcoming policy meeting, while Apple briefly hit a record high before losing ground. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.59%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.20% and 0.09% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.10%), the Dax 30 (-0.54%), CAC 40 (-0.96%) and the STOXX (-0.70%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+2.20%), HSI (+0.84%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.073%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.685%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.474%. Oil was up to $71.79 per barrel, up 0.07%. The gold price was at US$1977.50 per ounce, up 0.40%.
