US markets closed higher on Tuesday during voting in midterm elections that will determine control of the US Congress, with investors bettin on a political stalemate that could prevent major policy changes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.75%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.25% and down 0.06% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.08%), the Dax 30 (+1.15%), CAC 40 (+0.39%) and the STOXX (+0.82%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+1.25%), HSI (-0.23%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.23%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.128%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.67%. Oil was up to $89.03 per barrel, down 3.01%. The gold price was at US$1714.90 per ounce, up 2.05%.
