Sanford has announced that it is joining an international fishing industry business-to-business alliance, SeafoodAlliance.com

SeafoodAlliance.com was conceived in May and already boasts twelve member companies which represent over US$5 billion in annual revenue.

The aim of SeafoodAlliance.com is to build a vertical portal which will facilitate competition, reduce member transaction costs and build a better business platform for the seafood industry.

The B2B site is still in exploratory mode though, with Terrapin Partners LLC, a leading B2B consultancy group, providing its services to the alliance.

Sanford managing director Eric Barratt says that being accepted into the alliance is a major step for Sanford.

"This is the first global alliance of its kind in the seafood industry, and it's significant that Sanford has become the Southern Hemisphere member."

No indication was given of when SeafoodAlliance.com would be operational.

At the time of the announcement, Sanford was steady at $4.40.
