Former chair of the Commerce Commission Paula Rebstock has been recalled by new chairman Mark Berry to help oversee the completion of a number of decisions pending in the telecommunications sector.

Berry asked Rebstock to sit on the Telecommunications Commission panel to ensure a smooth transition through pending determinations. With Telecommunications Commissioner Ross Patterson still on alcohol-related leave, the Commerce Commission chair assumed the role in his absence. Rebstock's tenure as chair ended two days ago after she tendered her resignation last month.

Rebstock "will continue to carry out her role as a member of the Commission in relation to a number of important telecommunications matters," Berry said in a statement.

The former chair will continue to oversee the investigations into mobile termination rates, the cost of the Telecommunications Services Obligations, rulings on sub-loop services, and the Next Generation Networks Study alongside commissioners Anita Mazzoleni and Gowan Pickering.

The regulator on March 30 deferred a decision on whether to include pricing in the investigation into national roaming services because of "significant concerns" over the state of the market, in one of Rebstock's final statements as chair.

Telecom, the largest listed company in New Zealand, fell 0.4% to $2.29 in early trading today, having sunk 5.8% in the last month.
