Obviously your father has never been poor, nor does he have any idea of the concept. I have seen people literally die from your ' state of mind' so please you who have no idea of the concept of real abject poverty are better off keeping your philosophical idea of poverty to yourselves.
I personally lived on Rice and Sweetsoy once per day for 14 months as a child in an Indonesian concentration camp! and I have the bad teeth and bones to prove it.

My father often mentioned a saying to the effect of

" being broke is a temporary state of affairs... being poor is a state of the mind"

couldn't help but remember that on reading these posts..

By the way - Snoopy if you is reading this - I never did manage to pick up any NZE shares - had the opportunity to get in at 24c but blew it playing hardball in the depthlist -sat on the  top with a 22c bid...
Still, to allude to an earlier post of yours... NZE is a company that I love to watch and not a company that I have fallen in love with...regardless of wether I hold NZE or watch it, I gain a lot of pleasure from the relationship...
wrt holding shares one has fallen in love with...esp when they are biting you in the *ss ( something I am sure plenty of posters have been guilty of at some stage).... I have made a couple of tough calls in the management of my portfolio by refusing to fall in love with the company - but falling in love with the bottom line of my portfolio (figuratively speaking of course) - that way - if something is hurting my beloved - they are easy to dispense with, especially when compared to someone who would help nurture and grow her...still aint easy though and I am still a holder of BGR !... but thats another story .....
