I think you mean "charting", unlike what the subject line refers to.
Any  way, from my experiences with many program such as Mestastock etc, you 
pretty much get what you pay for.Metastock truely is amazing and depending on 
how serious you are about it, it is the definative charting program for retail 
investors, and even some stock brokers that I have met. One program which I 
have found very helpful and a little cheaper is one called "OmniTrader". You 
don't have to be a charting expert by any means to use it and its most useful 
bit of the program was its ability to test your tading sytems, either in real 
time, or using historical data. It can use data in all the major formats (eg. 
Metastock data) so is very compatible with the NZ Markets. Here is a link to
