Re: [sharechat] Air New Zealand B Shares

Might be a little late to the conversation but a few minor comments re
Air NZ

Althought hey have put the issue off to date at some stage they will
need to reequip at least part of the Eagle Air fleet (and at up to $15m
per aircraft it adds up).

On the domestic front Ansett/Qantas will be a major competitor and will
win back some of the clientele lost through Ansetts problems last year.
Air Nz currently does all Qantas ground handling in NZ as does Qantas do
this for Air NZ in Australia. Expect Air NZ to go to Ansett in
Australia, Qantas to go to Ansett/Qantas. This could be better for Air
NZ in the longer term.

The trans tasman load factors are high but this may be a temporary
effect, Olympic year and all. In comparison (apparently) China Air were
doing AKL-SYD for $199 and flying 30% full so they must be doing
something right.

Their currency/futures management must have been shocking to see the
impact that the price rise in jet fuel had to them this year. Higher
costs going forward will only affect them to the same extent as their
competitors - what is of concern is how much better their own
competition did in this respect over the last twelve months.

Regards

James
