Auckland Airport said today it plans to develop a four to five-star hotel in its international terminal, to open in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Building a hotel as part of its terminal would follow the international trend of providing an on-terminal hotel for travellers, the airport company said.

Horwath HTL Ltd is helping Auckland Airport choose an investor and operator for the planned 250-room hotel, next to the international terminal. The facility would also be close to a new domestic terminal building, part of Auckland Airport's facilities upgrade costing hundreds of millions of dollars.

Auckland Airport is seeking expressions of interest from developers, investors and operators.

Shares in Auckland Airport, the subject of a bid for control by Dubai Aerospace Enterprise at $3.80, were down a cent this afternoon at $3.20.
