New Zealand has retained its place in the world's top-20 nations on two beauty parade lists released yesterday.

It slightly improved from 20th to 18th in terms of its appeal for conducting business over the next five years in a ranking by the Economist Intelligence Unit. It also just scraped into the top 20, at 19th, on the UN Human Development Index (HDI), which ranks 173 countries by a composite measure of life expectancy, education and income per person.
