December 18th Morning Report

The US markets closed lower on Tuesday, as investors turned cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's last interest rate announcement of the year following stronger-than-expected retail sales data. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.84%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.56% and  0.43%.

Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.81%), the Dax 30 (-0.33%), CAC 40 (+0.12%) and the STOXX (-0.09%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.24%), HSI (-0.48%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.73%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.391%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.243%. Oil was up to $69.81 per barrel, down 1.04%. The gold price was at US$2662.40 per ounce, up 0.25%.
