US markets closed higher on Tuesday, led by rate-sensitive stocks, after a smaller-than-expected rise in US consumer prices raised hopes that the Federal Reserve could soften its aggressive stance on interest rate hikes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.13%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.60% and 0.88% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.76%), the Dax 30 (+1.34), CAC 40 (+1.42%) and the STOXX (+1.66%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.40%), HSI (+0.68%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.085%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.516%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.231%. Oil was up to $75.58 per barrel, up 3.29%. The gold price was at US$1824.60 per ounce, up 1.80%.
