Meat processor Silver Fern Farms now has its shares trading on the alternative exchange, Unlisted.

“Silver Fern Farms shareholders recently voted to amend its capital structure and adopt a new constitution to allow the ordinary shares to be publicly traded for the first time," Unlisted manager Bruce Cossill says. "The addition to the exchange of a major co-operative like Silver Fern Farms is a notable and pleasing milestone in the continuing evolution of Unlisted.”

Silver Fern Farms chairman Eoin Garden said the listing provides shareholders with a transparent and arms-length secondary market trading mechanism after such a lot of hard work by the company over recent months.

"The directors are in no doubt that our shareholders will benefit greatly from having access to a cost-effective share trading facility."

“The company recognises the value to investors of being able to see market prices for their shares and to have a simple yet effective trading option, and we look forward to working with Unlisted to deliver solutions that benefit our shareholders.”

Silver Fern Farms operates 21 processing facilities throughout the country, employing more than 7,000 staff in the peak of the season.
