US markets closed mixed on Thursday after unexpectedly strong inflation data and a drop in weekly jobless claims added to fears that the Federal Reserve will keep raising interest rates to tame high prices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.39%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.40% and up 0.48% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.18%), the Dax 30 (+0.18), CAC 40 (+0.89%) and the STOXX (+0.40%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.71%), HSI (+0.84%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.96%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.845%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.619%. Oil was up to $78.45 per barrel, down 0.18%. The gold price was at US$1852.20 per ounce, up 0.37%.
