US markets closed lower on Thursday on worries that the Federal Reserve's aggressive fight against inflation could hobble the US economy, and as investors fretted about a rout in global currency and debt markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.46%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 2.82% and 2.05% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-1.77%), the Dax 30 (+1.71%), CAC 40 (-1.53%) and the STOXX (-1.69%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.95%), HSI (-0.49%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.13%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.765%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.182%. Oil was down to $81.49 per barrel, down 0.80%. The gold price was at US$1669.50 per ounce, down 0.30%.
