Fast food operator Restaurant Brands (RB) remains in discussion with private equity firm CVC Asia Pacific Limited regarding a takeover.

In June, CVC made a $160 million offer for the company, which operates Pizza Hut, Starbucks and KFC in New Zealand.

CVC is still negotiating with International Inc (Yum!), one of RB's key franchisors, on franchise agreements to apply following any successful takeover offer, RB chairman Bill Falconer said.

CVC said in July it would be unable to proceed with its notified takeover offer within the time-frames stipulated by the Takeovers Panel.

However, it said it would continue to try to satisfy the pre-conditions to the making of its offer, including reaching agreement with RB franchisors.

Shares in Restaurant Brands closed up 2c to $1.52.
