US markets closed lower in choppy trading on Tuesday as Treasury yields climbed, with investors weighing the likely path of interest rates in a resilient US economy with persistent inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.17%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.20% and up 1.79% respectively.

Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-1.82%), the Dax 30 (-1.44%), CAC 40 (-1.40%) and the STOXX (-1.35%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.94%), HSI (-2.12%) and the Shanghai Composite (-1.65%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.669%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.985%. Oil was up to $85.31 per barrel, down 0.12%. The gold price was at US$2400.70 per ounce, up 0.74%.
