High-flyers wanted for stock market challenge

Friday 24th August 2001

Text too small?
High-flyer wannabes can test their nerve on the sharemarket in the inaugural National Business Review $tock Market Challenge.

An overall prize of $20,000 worth of air travel can be won, with fortnightly prizes also up for grabs.

The game involves individuals or teams competing against each other on a virtual New Zealand Stock Exchange.

Each day participants can buy or sell commodities via the $tock Market Challenge website to try to improve the overall value of their portfolio.

The $tock Market Challenge is web-based and lets entrants log in and trade whenever they want.

Commodity prices are updated at the end of the day, based on the closing price for the NZSE.

Because the $tock Market Challenge is about making daily investment decisions, it does not allow participants to make instant gains just by buying and selling fast-moving shares throughout the day.

After each trade, entrants' portfolio values are updated and their total portfolio value is listed live for all participants to view.

The game will be run from October 15 to December 7 with fortnightly prizes awarded to entrants based on the largest increase in portfolio values.
