The US market closed higher on Monday and the Dow was close to flat, as investors bought heavyweight technology stocks and shrugged off the uncertainty of a potential US government shutdown and hawkish remarks from a Federal Reserve official.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.16%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.22% and 0.45% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.16%), the Dax 30 (+0.02%), CAC 40 (+0.13%) and the STOXX (+0.13%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.69%), HSI (+1.89%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.90%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.141%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.631%. Oil was up to $63.23 per barrel, down 3.79%. The gold price was at US$3857.07 per ounce, up 1.26%.
