Green Cross Health has hired long-time Carter Holt Harvey executive Rachael Newfield to run the primary health care group.
Newfield will take up the newly created group chief executive role from Jan. 29. She's been tasked with leading the pharmacy, medical and community health divisions into their next stage of growth.
"She will prioritise implementing the strategic plan with a customer and patient-centric view, ensuring our focus is on sustained value and business growth," the company said.
Newfield has held a number of roles at Carter Holt Harvey, her most recent as CEO of the wood products division.
Green Cross's three divisions previously had separate reporting lines as the company evolved from a straight pharmacy retailer into an integrated health group.
The company has previously noted the growing cost pressures on the health sector and was keenly watching the nurses collective negotiations with district health boards and the likely spillover into private operators. The firm hopes the government's health and disability sector review will lead to more sustainable healthcare provision.
The company's shares fell 2.3 percent to $1.25 and have dropped 25 percent so far this year.
