Telecom (NZSE: TEL) is trying a new tack to get down with the kids.

The company has announced it is dropping its youth market Pulsate brand in favour of a trans-Tasman connection.

Telecom says it will be teaming up with Australian-based Boost, which it claims is a highly successful mobile youth brand and is supported by such streetwise brands as Mooks, M-One-11, Mossimo, Globe Shoes, Billabong, Quiksilver, Fox Clothing and Pepsi.

Telecom Mobile GM, Mohan Jesudason, says Boost Tel is highly regarded in Australia for its skills in the sales, marketing and distribution of mobile phones and products to the youth segment of the mobile market.

"Boost Mobile will replace Pulsate in the New Zealand youth mobile market with existing customers able to top up their prepaid accounts with the new Boost Mobile recharge cards.

"Boost Mobile is an exciting new brand that combines the best of both Telecom Mobile and Boost Tel."

The new brand will be sold in selected surf, skate and snow stores as well as other key youth and convenience outlets and will be promoted through events such as surfing and snowboarding competitions.
