US markets closed mixed on Wednesday after hotter-than-expected inflation data threw could water on hopes that the Federal Reserve would begin cutting interest rates as early as June. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.02%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.14% and up 0.32% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.33%), the Dax 30 (+0.11%), CAC 40 (-0.05%) and the STOXX (+0.20%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.48%), HSI (+1.85%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.70%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.544%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.975%. Oil was up to $86.18 per barrel, up 1.11%. The gold price was at US$2351.00 per ounce, down 0.48%.
