US markets closed higher on Friday as encouraging economic data and a brighter earnings outlook fueled investor risk appetite ahead of next week's much-anticipated two-day policy meeting. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 2.59%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 2.46% and 2.87% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.37%), the Dax 30 (+0.24%), CAC 40 (+0.46%) and the STOXX (+0.24%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.88%), HSI (-3.66%) and the Shanghai Composite (-2.25%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.01%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.414%. Oil was down to $88.38 per barrel, up 0.55%. The gold price was at US$1648.30 per ounce, up 0.21%.
