Cook is managing director of the Collins Group, an Auckland-based investment company that also has interests in high technology supermarket equipment which is exported internationally, executive recruitment and childcare. Collins Group has a shareholding of 9% in Charlie's following share placements in December 2005 and February 2006.
Cook's appointment was welcomed by Charlie's chairman Roger Gower. "Mr Cook has wide experience and knowledge in many areas of business, including recruitment and human resources management in particular," Gower said. "These will be critical to the future development of the company as it deals with growth, and with the integration of operations across a range of brands and products."
Cook is a director of several companies both within and outside Collins Group. These include Cook Executive Recruitment Limited, which he co-founded as Cook Duhs & Associates in 1986 and of which he assumed full ownership in 1998. His earlier management career was in the retailing and fashion industries.
Cook has been associated with Collins Group since 2003, when he joined Primecare Retirement Villages as a trustee and business advisor. He became chief executive officer in 2004, and oversaw the sale of the business in August 2005.
