Beleaguered Air New Zealand (NZSE: AIRVA) subsidiary Ansett Australia has been found to have short-changed a number of its frequent flyers by not crediting them with the right number of points.

Regulatory watchdog, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, says during an inquiry into frequent flyer schemes it found some members travelling on Singapore Airlines since September 1998 may not have received their full entitlement of Global Rewards points.

"Some members may have received Global Rewards points for only 70% of the kilometres flown instead of the full 100%," says ACCC chairman Allan Fels.

"It is important that advertised rewards are available and that they are honoured."

The ACCC says following its investigation Ansett has agreed to identify and contact the Global Rewards members who may have been affected and ask for clarification of their flights.

It will then top up those members accounts with the correct number of points and will also award them with a bonus 5,000 points for their inconvenience.

Ansett also plans to improve its systems to that similar errors are avoided.
