US markets closed higher on Friday. The benchmark S&P 500 index closed at its highest level of the year on Friday amid growing optimism the Federal Reserve was done raising US interest rates and could begin to cut them next year as inflation cools. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.03%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.05% and up 0.68% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+1.01%), the Dax 30 (+1.12%), CAC 40 (+0.48%) and the STOXX (+0.82%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225 (-0.17%), HSI (-1.25%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.065%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.209%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.551%. Oil was up to $74.38 per barrel, down 2.08%. The gold price was at US$2091.70 per ounce, up 1.68%.
