Bernie Higgins has been elected as president of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries for 2010.
Currently a Wellington based consulting actuary, Higgins has extensive experience in both corporate actuarial work and consulting in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, particularly in the areas of superannuation, investment management and relationship property.
As president, Higgins will focus on raising the profile of the actuarial profession. He is also keen to explore the opportunities for the profession to demonstrate its range of skills, particularly in areas in which actuaries have not traditionally operated.
Higgins is joined on the Council of the Society by Aucklanders Heathcliff Neels, Ian Perera and John Smith; and Wellingtonians Linda Caradus, Ian New and Paul Rhodes.
