US markets closed lower on Thursday after news that the Bank of Japan will allow long-term interest rates to rise sent US yields higher, snapping the longest winning streakfor te Dow since 1987. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.67%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.64% and up 0.55% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.21%), the Dax 30 (+1.70%), CAC 40 (+2.05%) and the STOXX (+2.33%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.68%), HSI (+1.41%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.20%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.002%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.926%. Oil was up to $79.85 per barrel, up 1.36%. The gold price was at US$1944.40 per ounce, up 1.30%.
