US markets closed lower on Friday as worsening inflation expectations kept intact worries that the Federal Reserve's aggressive rate hike path could trigger a recession, while investors digested the early stages of earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 1.34%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 3.08% and 2.37% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.12%), the Dax 30 (+0.67%), CAC 40 (+0.90%) and the STOXX (+0.57%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+3.25%), HSI (+1.21%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.84%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.022%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.496%. Oil was down to $85.55 per barrel, down 0.07%. The gold price was at US$1650.20 per ounce, up 0.08%.
