Bank account for new Telecom network

Telecom says ASB has chosen its new CDMA mobile network to allow customers to do WAP-based banking.

"ASB Bank customers will now be able to check statements and account balances, transfer funds, and view transactions on the screen of their Telecom CDMA mobile phone," says Telecom.

Telecom says its new CDMA service was selected by the bank because of its high level of security, ease of use and attractive pricing.

Spokesman, Nic Holdgate says market research shows mobile banking is in demand.

"We know from our trial last year that customers really want mobile banking services.

"Imagine being able to check your balance while you are at the supermarket and transferring some funds on the spot to cover the value of your purchase."

Telecom launched its $200 million CDMA network early last month to regain a technology edge over mobile rival company Vodafone.
