The Nasdaq notched a record high close in a mixed trading session on Friday, lifted by Microsoft as investors looked ahead to the Federal Reserve's policy meeting next week, when it is widely expected to cut interest rates to counter a slowdown in the jobs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.59%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.05% and 0.44% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.15%), the Dax 30 (-0.02%), CAC 40 (+0.02%) and the STOXX (+0.07%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.89%), HSI (+1.16%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.65%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.068%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.562%. Oil was up to $62.69 per barrel, up 0.51%. The gold price was at US$3686.40 per ounce, up 0.35%.
