Allan,
You ask if MetaStock will "update the charts on a live action basis".
There are 2 versions of MetaStock. The most commonly used version runs on "end
of day" data, automatically updating all charted indicators (including trailing
stops) just as soon as the EOD data is uploaded. Then there is the
"Professional" version, which needs a live data feed. This version updates all
indicators etc on a live "realtime" basis.
Either version can be set up such that any particular event (such as prices
falling below a programmed trailing stop) will trigger a visual and/or audible
alert.
Trailing stops are good for people that want to continue to hold when a stock
that has been in an uptrend goes into a trading range. Trendlines, moving
averages and most trend indicators give sell signals (sooner or later) under
these circumstances.
Regards,
Phaedrus.
