A spanner in the works could be the huge cost involved in relocating the functional units still there to Ohakea.   Current rumour has the price at 100 million and increasing - thats got to hurt any govt as the benefits will take some time to be felt, longer than 3 years anyhow.

Of course if Whenuapai were to go ahead, the reduction in aircraft numbers corresponds with a reduction in the number of people using car parks, shops, and associated infrastructure. But yeah, the prospects for AIA remain generally good while the long term trend of increasing tourist numbers remains.
