Re: [sharechat] Discount Brokers: ASB Securities

I've recommended them before, but after dealing with three other brokers
(including a full-service
who gave me such consistently bad advice, I'm still furious a year later) since
 I started investing
three years ago, finding ASB Securities felt like coming home.

I've been with them for about two years and am frequently surprised by the way
they "go the extra
mile" for even their discount clients.

They really are great: extremely efficient, relatively cheap (very cheap in
terms of their Foreign
Currency Account system for trading Australian shares), and best of all for a
novice investor,
extremely helplful, cheerful and positively jolly about the mistakes that one
inevitably makes when
one begins to trade online. Their discount brokers also seem to stay with them,
so you get to know
the nice people on the other end of the phone line when you have to ring about
the occasional
problem. I use their ONLINE DISCOUNT system ($24.95 per trade for both Aussie
and NZ shares), also
they do have full-service brokers (don't know the rates there).

They do seem to uncannily get the right price very often within the range of
the set limit, and as a
matter of course, only charge one brokerage for an order which make take days
to complete.

I find their website also extemely helpful, with its real time watchlists and
market depth,
portfoio management systems, announcents from both NZSE and ASX, and its
research facilities for
both NZ and Aussie shares (including analysts' commentary, which often prove to
be uncannily
accurate) and financials and interim data (which includes dates and amounts of
past dividends).

Hope this helps

Jerry
