[sharechat] Warehouse supermarkets?

From: "Phil Boeyen" <pboeyen@sharechat.co.nz>

Thought I'd fly a kite this morning about the potential for The Warehouse to
get into the food game, after reading this story about Wal-Mart opening up
supermarkets in the US:

I have talked before about WHS "owning" the discount category in NZ and
where it could take it to from here. Getting Australia right is obviously
the first priority but then a move into food could make sense, especially as
the stores already offer quite a few food items.

I wonder if they would consider buying the Woolworths chain (not that it is
even officially for sale), unless Progressive manages to get regulatory
permission and buys it first. It could make sense. Woolworths, after all,
was a general discount retailer for years before moving into the supermarket
business itself.

Phil
(no WHS)
