[sharechat] A few thoughts

Hi all,

While techno talk may have slowed but I am reading an
interesting book at the moment about the far reaching
impact of the new e-commerce era and the abilities
that computers have given to individuals.

It is about how computers are changing the world
economy and shifting us from an industrial to an
information based society and based on this shift, it
will result in the collapse of the welfare state and
the govt's ability to tax people. Because computer's
now allow business to be carried on in cyberspace
(were there is no govt) then the Government's ability
to tax is removed. These two gentleman by the name's
of James Davidson & William Rees-Mogg believe that
economic responsibility will be shifted to the
individual who will become more of a private
contractor in complete control of his (or her) own
money and with easy access to enormous computing power
it will create what they call 'Sovereign individuals'.

Essentially, working in cyberspace, with bank accouts
in tax havens it will be difficult to tax individuals
income. It is a fasinating concept and the
acknowledgements even mention Sir Roger Douglas. Has
anyone else read this book and/or have any thoughts on
the idea?

I'm sure this is a topic you would all be interested
in and get you thinking.

Look forward to hearing any thoughts on the subject.

Regards,
Sarah
