Listed travel marketer Jasons Travel Media is to buy the operations of publisher Today/Tonight for around $1 million.

Jasons will fund the purchase with part of the proceeds from a one for six-rights issue to existing shareholders at 70c.

Today/Tonight publishes visitor guides to Christchurch and Queenstown.

The Today/Tonight partnership licences a further guide into Southland and Fiordland, and operates a number of websites. "Today/Tonight is a logical fit to our other South Island investments," Jasons chief executive Steven Joyce said.

He said they would complement the company's other recent purchase of brochure distribution and publishing operations in Queenstown, and its existing What's On guides to Auckland and Wellington.

Jasons also runs a website for travel information.

Today/Tonight chief executive Nick Reekie will join Jasons, heading up its monthly visitor guide operations.
