Certified Organics makes new inroads into Europe

Letters of intent have been signed with three European companies -- Swiss-based Intrachem, Austrian company Afaplant Handels Gmbh, and Spiess-Urania Chemicals Gmbh, of Germany.

The deals are legally binding, subject to agreement on the finer points.

Certified Organics said it was also considering distribution proposals for Britain and France, and was close to concluding a distribution agreement for Japan, with a view to launching there in February 2003.

Chairman Earl Stevens said the European market represented roughly 60 percent of the global organic produce market, worth over $50 billion and growing at a rate of 20 percent a year.

"There is significant interest in non-chemical weed control throughout Europe, particularly in urban areas," he said.

Certified has already exchanged a letter of intent with a Dutch-based company to market and distribute products through Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
