Meat company Richmond chief executive John Loughlin has formally announced his resignation from October 31.

Mr Loughlin will also resign from his directorship on the board.

His resignation was foreshadowed in May after 5-1/2 years in the role.

Richmond chairman Sam Robinson said it had been Mr Loughlin's wish to make a complete break in deference to his successor.
