POA consent upsets operators

The Auckland Regional Council has recommended consent be given to the Ports of Auckland to deepen the commercial shipping lane in Rangitoto Channel so it can accommodate the passage of larger vessels.

But a group of charter boat operators wants more research done before any consents are granted.

Spokesperson Warren Sinclair says the group is disappointed with the decision. He says the group has not decided yet whether it will appeal the consent.

The plan has to be approved by the Minister of Conservation.
