The new entity has been awarded an integrated logistics contract to handle approximately one million tonnes of coal shipped into Tauranga for railing across to the Huntly Power Station.
This is one of the largest single port logistics contract seen in several years and is a clear recognition of the value of long-term partnerships in the supply chain, according to Toll Owens chief executive Mark Cairns.
"We're obviously pleased to get a run on the board at this early stage - confirming our belief that the integrated service we can now offer is attractive to the market," he said.
The Genesis Energy business involves the handling of approximately one million tonnes of coal a year, in an operation which integrates the traditionally discrete areas of marshalling, stevedoring and warehousing. Combining with Toll Rail who have been contracted by Genesis Energy for the rail linehaul has allowed a truly integrated service offering.
Genesis Energy's General Manager Generation & Trading Dean Carroll said he looked forward to working with Toll Owens Ltd and that the logistics contract would mean the use of large trucks to get coal from the Port of Tauranga to Huntly Power Station could now cease.
