Wrightson (NZSE: WRI) has announced a new senior appointment to help grow its integrated fibre management business overseas.

The company has hired a former International Wool Secretariat director, John Grainger, to a newly created senior wool marketing position.

Wrightson says Mr Grainger is an international wool expert and will be responsible for forging relationships with overseas processors in the interior textile market and developing new overseas markets for the integrated fibre management (IFM) business.

"John has a very strong international reputation and is highly regarded by overseas wool processors and users of New Zealand wool for his understanding of their businesses and their needs," says Wrightson MD Dr Allan Freeth.

"His appointment creates a significant growth opportunity for Wrightson's IFM strategy, which focuses on the needs of processors and leverages this to the benefit of our woolgrower clients."

Dr Freeth says Wrightson's IFM strategy already accounts for 18% of the wool handled by the company and allows growers to grow wool to processor's specification under the terms of a supply contract.

Mr Grainger has been involved in the wool industry for 30 years, including 10 years as the International Wool Secretariat's Director of Interior Textiles in Belgium. More recently he has been MD of Wools of NZ, the Wool Board's promotional arm.
