The chairman of Wrightson, Keith Smith, today announced that Barry Brook had been appointed chief executive officer.

Brook joined the company in 1985 and since then has held a number of senior positions covering most aspects of the company's operations.

"Barry shares the same core values as the Wrightson board and has a common vision of the culture needed to deliver superior performance for customers," Smith said.

"From his 19 years as a senior executive with the company he has a superb understanding of the business, its role in rural New Zealand, and what is required to drive operational performance."

Smith said Brook was appointed after a thorough selection process that looked both inside and outside the company.

"Barry emerged as the outstanding candidate. He has a record of success and is steeped in Wrightson's values and culture, and is held in the highest regard by his colleagues."

Brook has been acting chief executive officer since June 2004, and was previously general manager international, with responsibility for the highly successful seeds business and the company's operations in Australia and Uruguay. He has also held the positions of regional manager North Island, general manager livestock, and group treasurer.

Brook joined Wrightson from the Prime Minister's Advisory Group prior to which he was senior economist at the Meat and Wool Economic Service.

Brook has a Master of Agricultural Commerce (Hons) degree and a Diploma in Valuation and Farm Management, both from Lincoln University.

His appointment takes effect immediately.
